Countdown to Travel
Today is the first day of the week, and the first day of February. It is also the start of my countdown to my first trip of 2016. Well, to be honest, I’ve been counting down since the day I booked the trip, but with this being my last week in the office, I’ll count this as the “official” countdown.
The anticipation of travel, and the subsequent travel countdown, is probably the most exciting feeling I know how to feel. The freedom of being off the clock, the excitement of a new or already-loved locale, the unknown unknowns – all so exciting. The responsible employee in me is trying to focus on my job for the rest of the week, the responsible traveler in me is trying to make sure all of our reservations are made and needs lists checked off, and the daydreamer in me is already on a sandy beach…
Sailing the High Seas
This trip in particular has me thrilled, because it’s a form of travel I’ve never tried before — cruising! Thursday night I will be leaving home, flying into sunny Florida, and embarking on my first ever cruise! It’s a short, 5-day cruise, but it gives me a week in the sun, shared between Florida, the Cayman Islands, and Jamaica. My hang-up with cruises has always been the minimal time spent in port. I prefer to spend significant amounts of time in a new location, to really get the feel for the city, the culture, and the locals. So a brief ten-hour stay had never been something I was up for. However, this opportunity presented itself, so I figured I’d give it a try. I’m very interested to see how I feel about cruising after this experience.
Partners in Crime
I’m also excited for this trip because I will be traveling with my mom – another first. I’m looking forward to spending the time with her (as we live on opposite sides of the country, it’s tough to get together as much as we’d like to), but I’m really stoked to get her to a white-sand, clear-water, palm-treed beach. It’s always been her fantasy paradise, and I’m so glad I get to share that with her!
To be Continued…
Two weeks from today I’ll be home, and should be able to gather my thoughts on cruising enough to write a quick post. Until then, what are your thoughts? Have you cruised before? Feel free to share any suggestions you have on what to do or not to do.
